Hi Tori, we've dialogued in the past and you were an inspiration to me to begin writing my book. I started in 2020 when I had lots of time but not so much recently. I had to put it aside as I was writing about all the Indigenous healers, medicine men, curanderas and political leaders with whom I had worked with in the last 40 years. I set my story aside because I needed to take time to grieve them all as they have all passed. So reading this email about how challenging it is for you to start up again allows me to cut myself a little slack. I'm currently working as an addictions counselor in the same Oregon prison where I did sweatlodges 34 years ago. I don't have time to do much but I feel it is time to kick start writing my story about my friends once again. You are one of my primary inspirations. Keep on being you.

Mahalo for sharing, Antonio. I commend you for taking time off to grieve and honor thise whi recently passed on. It feeds and nurtures our souls. There is a season everything. There is also the appropriate way for a particular time. I'm sure you and I will both find the new writing practice that blends with and augments the current conditions and goals of our present lives. 🥰

Such a busy several months! I hear you on the challenges of finding and building new routines, in itself something that requires time and energy. I've had some unrelated frustrations with managing my own time, and for some reason, your newsletter today reminded me of a mutual friend of ours from Tampa, who always says we should feel free to meditate when we're stopped at a light, because when it's time to get started again, we can rely on our fellow drivers to remind us. 🤣 Maybe the same is true for (meditation or something incredibly valuable when similarly untimed) and babies (or another unpredictable demand)?

When our daughter was born, whew did it change my writing life. Before, I had to have my strict schedule, total quiet, all very precious. Now I could write even if the cat was on fire. Our daughter is moving to college later this year...I'm already thinking about what that means for my work schedule. Another adjustment. Hang in. Sounds like you are doing important work all the way around.

Thanks for this timely food for thought. Over the last year, I've been struggling with trying to find a new rhythm for my life/writing schedule. I now go see mom at the nearby nursing home almost every day and so plan my day around that, which must occur during the day before five (she's too tired after dinner which is at five) and even the shortest visit means around an hour out of the day. I often marvel at how much I got done when the kids were young versus what's going on right now when it's just me! But I have new responsibilities with my mom and still grieving my dad so still need some fine tuning. Good luck with your new schedule! We'll all get to where we need to be when we're supposed to!
